Town officials told the Dupont Town Board on Feb. 11 that 811 locates for a planned fence along the Madison Railroad are complete and the fence is expected to be installed by the end of May, but the town still needs a legal agreement and an easement with Madison Railroad before construction can proceed.
Clerk/Treasurer Robyn J. Meek reported the board has been unable to reach the town attorney about the agreement and easement. President Kevin Burnette instructed Clerk Meek to contact another attorney if the town cannot reach counsel soon so the project can move forward. Board members said installation of a stop sign at South and NW Front Street will be coordinated with the fence project.
The town has also applied for a $50,000 Community Crossing Matching Grant to preserve town streets; award decisions are expected by mid-March. The board said it will review town alleys as part of its streets planning.
Next steps: secure a railroad easement/agreement, obtain legal support as needed, and await CCMG award notification.
