Principal and superintendent highlight staffing, LETRS training and upcoming school events

At the Browerville Public School District board meeting on March 10, K-12 Principal Patrick Sutlief and Superintendent Scott Vedbraaten summarized instructional and operational matters ahead of spring.

Patrick Sutlief reported that scheduling for the next school year is running behind because the district is awaiting word from Central Lakes College on a teacher’s appeal to retain Career and Industry Specialist (CIS) instructor status. He said elementary teachers are continuing LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training through this year and next.

Sutlief listed spring activities and assessments: bowling for elementary classes with Lions assistance, a National Honor Society banquet March 24 at the school, ACT testing conducted March 11 (with Stacy Marxer listed as the coordinator and Sutlief noting he "did the work of the coordinator and administrator" due to complications), upcoming MCA testing, a Science Fair awards ceremony March 11, kindergarten round-up (March 18, 6–7 p.m.), preschool sign-up, and music contests including large-group choir and band and solo & ensemble events. He noted the rapid pace from post-Easter activities into prom, spring concerts, athletics and graduation.

Superintendent Scott Vedbraaten reported a donation from the Lions toward the purchase of a new Gator utility vehicle, said he provided three testimonies before the state legislature this month, and noted regional superintendents will meet legislators at the Capitol next week. He also said a building project update will appear in the local paper and that graduation planning is underway.
