Darlington utility board approves temporary 0.000072/kWh tracking-factor increase for April–June 2025

Darlington Clerk-Treasurer Michelle Cash asked the Town Council and Utility Board on Feb. 6 to approve a temporary increase to the electric tracking factor of 0.000072 per kilowatt-hour for April, May and June 2025. Jeremy Weliever moved the motion and Marilyn Cohee seconded; the board approved it 3-0.
Cash presented the billing report for January 2025 and framed the adjustment as a short-term change to take effect across the three months. The council did not record any opposing votes; President Nicole Parker and Council Member Jennifer Flaugher were absent from the meeting.
Electric Superintendent Brian Mullen told the board the department completed the project on “32” and is working on a pilot for electric-vehicle stations to meet state requirements. Council member Jeremy Weliever updated the council on smart-meter work and said the board should consider hiring an additional electric-department employee if funds allow; Clerk-Treasurer Michelle Cash said funding a third full-time position would be difficult.
The motion to increase the tracking factor is a temporary administrative step for the specified three-month period; the council did not attach further conditions at the meeting. The next steps noted in staff reports included continued work on the EV pilot and smart-meter implementation.
