Committee to inspect Charles Pond parcel; members consider survey and easement

At the May 4 meeting, the Fryeburg Conservation Committee discussed a Town-owned parcel on Charles Pond whose assessor map appears to show incorrect boundaries. Committee members agreed to organize an on-water inspection and pursue further record research to determine the parcel’s true location and conservation value.
Nels, a committee member, will organize a paddle to inspect the parcel with staff from USVLT so conservation professionals can evaluate the site’s ecological value and advise whether a conservation easement is appropriate. Committee notes record that resident Doug Burnell conducted initial research into deeds and land records and found that the parcel may be at the southern end of Charles Pond; the committee agreed Burnell’s work needs verification and possibly completion by a hired surveyor.
Committee members discussed using part of the 2026 budget to hire a surveyor to confirm boundaries and to support any subsequent conservation action. No final decision to hire a surveyor or place an easement on the parcel was recorded; the paddle and further record checks were identified as next steps.
