The council also approved a slate of 2024 election judges on a motion by Pease, seconded by Garrett Boulineau (Ayes 5, Nays 0). Clerk Dana Miron announced the filing period for affidavits of candidacy for mayor and two council seats will run from July 30 through Aug. 13, 2024.
Nordic Market's liquor licensure was reported as having met state requirements; the minutes note the State of Minnesota Board of Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement approved the license late last week. Separately, the council approved a temporary liquor license application for the CC Fire Relief Association for Center City Days (July 26-28) on a motion by Mark Wolcott, seconded by Lloyd Vetter (Ayes 5, Nays 0).
Public Works items: the council accepted a quote from KLM for water-tower washing at $5,200 on a motion by Ryan Pease, seconded by Mark Wolcott (Ayes 5, Nays 0). PW Supervisor Eric Garner presented a street-sweeping analysis for council review. Clerk Miron reported meter reads showed 50 radio heads need replacement; a partial order is expected in late August.
Personnel and committees: Public Works Supervisor Eric Garner submitted his resignation after 11 years of service; Mayor Behnke and the council thanked Garner at the meeting. The budget committee reported that Hazelden has signed its fire contract with the city. The city's application to the Empowering Small Minnesota Communities program was selected for the Tactical Action track and will receive University of Minnesota (UMN) support. Highway 8 project planning remains on hold due to the presence of endangered turtles, bats and bees in the project area.
Logistics: Center City Days are set for July 26-28; the Visitor's Bureau circulated lodging lists prompting the city to plan a letter to lodging providers within city limits. The meeting adjourned at 8:33 p.m. following a motion by Ryan Pease, seconded by Mark Wolcott (Ayes 5, Nays 0).
