Board members discussed steps to strengthen regional communications and response capabilities following recent incidents.
Vice Chairman Eric Haley reported that Talleyville Fire Company radios are being programmed to interoperate with Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and that efforts continue to improve interoperability with neighboring jurisdictions including Salem County. Allan MacKenzie and other district representatives highlighted plans to coordinate with the U.S. Coast Guard to offer another BOSAR (Boat Operations Search and Rescue) training class for river companies before the end of the summer.
Following a recent barge fire, Deputy Chief Bayko compiled a resource list of fireboats within a six-hour response radius extending from New York to the Carolinas to improve regional response capabilities; lessons learned from that incident are being incorporated into planning. The board also recognized Chief Dave Majewski Jr. as the new paid Fire Chief of Good Will Fire Company; his swearing-in is scheduled for May 30, 2026, at Station 18.
Board members were advised to contact County staff if they have questions about interoperability programming or resource-list distribution.
