During the Feb. 17 meeting of the Wapsie Valley Comm School District board, students from the Readlyn Lighthouse team described their WIG (Wildly Important Goal) process for math and reading and explained how student leadership helps set and reach goals. The students told the board they join teams to help peers, influence decisions and maintain engagement.
The district's robotics team presented two robots and gave an overview of their capabilities. Presenters listed in the minutes include Heather Robinson and robotics team members; the minutes note the teams showed built robots and explained functions.
In public comment, student and robotics-affiliated commentator Vaughn Gross urged the district to pursue grant applications to buy supplemental supplies for the science curriculum. Gross also noted that robotics is being discussed in legislation to become part of Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) and raised concerns about family and consumer sciences (FCS) facilities, specifically microwaves and ventilation.
