Wapsie Valley board approves staff contracts, allowable growth for LEP and interdistrict sharing agreements

The Wapsie Valley Comm School District board approved a slate of personnel contracts, program costs and interdistrict athletic-sharing agreements during its Oct. 21 meeting.
The board approved multiple employment contracts: Jennifer Gross as 2024–25 yearbook advisor ($1,203 base); Logan Flack as junior-high boys basketball coach ($1,955 base); Blayde Bellis as assistant boys basketball coach ($2,707 base); Elizabeth Bergman as junior-high girls basketball coach ($2,100 base); Nicole Barnes as assistant girls basketball coach ($2,707 base); and Gina Wiersma as a special-education associate at $15.92 per hour (up to 37.5 hours per week). Volunteer assistants for high-school wrestling were also listed and approved. All contract motions carried 5–0.
In new-business actions, the board declined all bids for a 2008 Uplander and approved the Certified Annual Report, Special Education Supplement and Transportation Report. Trustees approved the Limited English Proficient (LEP) allowable growth cost of $61,124.79. The board also authorized 2024–25 early-retirement packages for certified and classified staff, accepting up to five applicants from each group.
The board approved interdistrict sharing agreements for athletics: high-school girls wrestling with Sumner-Fredericksburg for a $750 fee, boys swimming with Waterloo West CSD, and boys soccer with Cedar Falls CSD for the 2024–25 season. Trustees also approved mandatory policy updates listed as 503.08, 605.03R1 and exhibits 605.3E1–E5.
