Wapsie Valley board approves HVAC design contract, personnel moves and program agreements

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Wapsie Valley Comm School District Board approved a $65,750 architecture contract for Phase III HVAC design, accepted a $355 bid for a surplus van, approved coach resignations and new coaching contracts, and authorized several program agreements; all recorded votes were 3-0.
Wapsie Valley Comm School District Board of Education members voted on a slate of routine items at their Nov. 18 regular meeting, including approval of a Phase III HVAC design contract, personnel changes, and program agreements.
Director Aiello moved and Director Kaufman seconded the motion to approve Martin Gardner Architecture to provide Phase III HVAC services for the junior high/high school at a cost of $65,750. The motion carried, 3-0.
The board also reopened a prior sale action and accepted a $355 bid from John Kleitsch for a 2008 Chevy Uplander van, with the board noting the vehicle disclaimer; the vote was 3-0.
On personnel matters, the board approved resignations from Clint Munk (head golf coach) and Casey O’Donnell (junior-high/boys basketball coach) and thanked them for their service. The board then approved a contract for Casey O’Donnell as assistant boys basketball coach (Base 1/Year 0 — $2,707.00) and for Caitlin McElhose as cheerleading sponsor (Base 1/Year 1 — $1,504.00). Both contract motions carried 3-0; motions were moved by Director Aiello and seconded by Director Kaufman.
Under new business the board approved SBRC Special Education administrative costs of $5,230.02 associated with the LIED Center Consortium Program for the 2025–26 school year, authorized the 2024–25 dance agreement with Oelwein, and approved a junior-high girls wrestling program for the 2024–25 season; each motion carried 3-0.
Superintendent Hoover reported that district results on the Iowa School Performance Profile show progress for Wapsie Valley while also noting declining enrollment. School principals provided routine activity updates including parent-teacher conferences, Veterans Day programming and extracurricular activity reports.
The board adjourned at 7:34 p.m. and recorded the meeting minutes through Board Secretary Kim Arndt.
