Charlestown board approves slate of spring and summer event contracts; mayor abstains on entertainment booking

CHARLESTOWN — The Charlestown Board of Public Works and Safety on Feb. 19 approved a series of contracts for spring and summer public events, including a choir showcase, a gaming truck, a mind‑reading performance, a weeklong science camp and a July band performance.
Mayor Treva Hodges presided over the 10 a.m. meeting at City Hall. The agenda, which added a River City Yacht Club band contract as new item e, was approved on a 3‑0 vote after a motion from board member Ernie Thompson and a second from Maggie Wild.
The board approved the minutes from Feb. 5, 2025, the regular claims, an additional claim of $830 to The Shirt Lady and the payroll voucher covering Feb. 2–8, 2026. Maggie Wild made the motion to approve those items; Ernie Thompson seconded, and the motion carried 3‑0.
On new business, the board authorized the Charlestown Ensembles’ contract to use the A&E Building for a choir showcase on April 17. Ernie Thompson moved to approve the contract; Maggie Wild seconded, and the board approved the motion 3‑0.
The board also approved a contract with Gamerz Truck LLC to provide a gaming truck on June 20 for $1,100. The approved contract includes city electricity use and overnight security at the event; Maggie Wild moved to approve and Ernie Thompson seconded. The motion passed 3‑0.
The board considered a Chance Mystic Entertainment contract for a mind‑reading show on June 17 at a cost of $850. Ernie Thompson moved to approve the contract and Maggie Wild seconded. Mayor Treva Hodges abstained from the vote; the motion was recorded as approved 2‑0.
A science camp contract with Daniel Dietrich for June 8–12 was approved; the fee is $175 per camper, with $25 from each ticket payable to the city. Maggie Wild moved to approve the contract; Ernie Thompson seconded and the motion passed 3‑0.
Finally, the board approved the added River City Yacht Club contract for a band performance on July 10 at a cost of $1,100. Maggie Wild moved to approve and Ernie Thompson seconded; the motion carried 3‑0.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Ernie Thompson, seconded by Maggie Wild, which passed 3‑0. The minutes were later signed and attested by Mayor Treva Hodges and Clerk Treasurer Donna S. Coomer.
