Long Prairie council approves payroll-date, meeting schedule, personnel actions and several capital bids

The Long Prairie City Council on Dec. 2 took several unanimous administrative and capital actions, approving changes intended to smooth payroll processing, alter meeting schedules and advance multiple capital projects.
Administrative actions: The council voted to move the payroll deposit date from Wednesdays to Fridays beginning Jan. 1 to reduce holiday-week conflicts and give staff more time to reconcile timecards. Council also approved changing the 2025 meeting schedule to the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month to reduce conflicts. Council member Schroeder moved the meeting-date change; Council member Kreemer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Personnel actions: The council removed Deputy Clerk Katrina Scheve from her six-month probationary period and granted her 40 hours of vacation and permanent employment status after a motion by Council member Schroeder that was seconded and approved. The council also created a committee (Council member Schroeder and Mayor‑elect Jim Kreemer) to conduct a performance review of City Administrator/Clerk Candace Bruder; that committee was appointed by motion of Council member Wright and approved.
Airport and hangar actions: The council approved moving forward with Bolton & Menk to prepare bidding documents for a proposed 200-by-40 multi-bay hangar at Todd County Airport. The proposed project cost was estimated at about $1.3 million with the FAA expected to cover roughly 95% of project expenses; the city’s direct share of the consulting/bidding step was $1,050. The council also approved revised hangar rental rates: existing hangars will increase from $80 to $100 per month effective Jan. 1, 2025, and the proposed new 200x40 hangars would be priced at $140 per month if built.
Capital bids: The council accepted ARC Electric’s bid of $221,300 to install a standby generator at the Water Treatment Facility to provide backup power (the bid will support tower redundancy during outages and the upcoming lift-station project). The council also awarded a $39,505 contract to Jeff Leyk for Riverside Park improvements; the agenda notes these bids must follow applicable bidding laws and prevailing-wage requirements tied to the project’s grant funding.
