Waldwick council approves PBA agreement and moves forward on capital purchases as finance chair reports stable mid‑year budget

The Waldwick Municipal Council on Monday approved a set of consent resolutions that include a collective bargaining agreement with the Waldwick PBA Local 217 and a capital equipment purchase to support the borough’s public works operations.
Finance committee chair Mr. Mike told the council the borough is roughly halfway through the fiscal year and in generally good shape: the water fund is about 35% expended and the municipal budget about 47% expended. He noted one notable overage on snow‑removal expenses and said the administration plans to transfer available funds from the snow trust account to cover the shortfall, which would substantially deplete the trust but leave the budget balanced for the rest of the year. "We have used or expended about 35% of the budgeted dollars," Mr. Mike said.
Mr. Mike also summarized pending grant applications the borough has submitted or is pursuing. He said the borough has a pending $700,000 matching grant for the 197 White Avenue property that requires final congressional approval and mentioned $1.2 million in appropriations from two senators, including Senator Booker, as well as several smaller requests for station and park improvements. He said the total amount of pending applications is about $2.3 million and described Bruno Associates as the municipal consultant handling application preparation and submission.
As part of the consent agenda the council approved a fair‑and‑open award for a CAT loader and snowplow attachment listed on the agenda at $354,878.60. Mr. Mike described the purchase as part of the 2026 capital budget to keep DPW and police equipped "to do their jobs."
The collective bargaining agreement with the PBA was discussed during the finance report. Mr. Mike thanked municipal staff and the union for negotiations that he said would keep the borough stable through 2030.
Clerk read a block of consent resolutions (numbers recited on the agenda) that covered routine approvals — minutes, pavilion permits, county shared‑service agreements for snow plowing, community development inclusion with Bergen County, license renewals, tax redemptions and payment of vouchers. The council took a roll‑call vote to adopt the consent resolutions as read.
The council also introduced Ordinance 2026‑10, amending Police Department compensation rules, and set a public hearing for the ordinance on July 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Next steps: items approved tonight will be processed administratively; the ordinance will return for a public hearing on July 14. The administration said it will continue to monitor grant outcomes and report back when federal or state approvals are finalized.
