New Germany council hears fire department training update, hall-window quote and other staff items

At its March 17 meeting the New Germany City Council received several staff and department updates but took no substantive action on most items.
Fire Department: The fire department reported an electric-vehicle training session conducted March 16 with a trainer identified as Mayer and noted possible future policy changes. The minutes record that McLeod County Cooperative received a $1,500 grant for training equipment (manikins).
Parks and public works: Parks staff reviewed draft pictures for a Lindstrom Park sign and indicated pricing is forthcoming. Public works reported routine operational items, including a diesel barrel refill scheduled for March 18 and a recommendation not to pile snow against the lower-level hall windows.
Clerk report: City Clerk Twyla Menth presented a First Street Construction quote to replace the upper hall windows (seven windows) and said the council asked staff to add two windows in the fire-department meeting room to the revised quote. The clerk also said Microsoft Publisher, used for the city newsletter, will be discontinued and the city must find alternate software; the message-board sign is not operating and staffer Eric will investigate; the Hilda weather siren is not sounding correctly during county tests and Eric will attempt repairs before contacting Frontline; the 2025 audit publication was sent to the Herald Journal; and a deck building permit was noted.
Old business and schedule: Council reviewed investment options and heard that Ehlers Investment will present at the April 21 meeting; no investment action was taken.
The council adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
