Wabash council adopts updated flood damage prevention ordinance

The Wabash City Council voted to adopt General Ordinance No. 5-2026 on its second reading, updating the city code’s provisions for planning and managing flood hazard areas and adopting a new flood damage prevention ordinance to comply with the National Flood Insurance Program. The motion carried on a roll call vote with all members present voting in favor.

The ordinance repeals and replaces Article 7, Divisions 1 through 6 of the city’s Code of Ordinances and is intended to align local floodplain regulation with requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program so residents remain eligible for federal flood insurance and the city remains in compliance with program standards. Council members did not request additional amendments during the second-reading vote.
