Athens in Motion sets May 6 date for 'Pedals & Pathways' mobility mixer

The Athens in Motion Commission confirmed plans for a public mobility mixer called “Pedals & Pathways: Mobility Mixer — State of Alternative Transportation in Athens,” scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, with public hours 5:30–7:30 p.m. and setup beginning at 5 p.m. Staff said Bike Athens has been confirmed as a partner and the preferred venue is an indoor space (with a band on the patio if weather allows) to support a monitor and easy viewing for presentations.

Staff described a target of roughly 75 prioritized attendees (tables reserved for partner groups and officials) with the event also open to the general public. Daniel and other commissioners discussed catering (an affordable option was suggested), promo materials provided by the venue partner, table logistics, volunteer/“floater” assignments for commissioners and outreach to campus research groups studying e‑bikes so they can participate or present.

Commissioners asked staff to draft a simple flyer and a brief press release and to invite local media; staff agreed to coordinate press invites and to share an organizer form for table requests. Erin offered to assist with outreach and Daniel volunteered to follow up on catering and logistics. The commission expects to use the event to showcase the plan revision, safety action plan and ongoing projects, and to engage community stakeholders and potential funders.

The commission did not take a formal vote on event funding at the meeting; staff noted that promotional and small advertising budgets would be considered outside this logistical discussion.
