Caledonia council approves ordering pumper chassis, to split cost with Rural Fire District

The Caledonia City Council on Sept. 9 approved ordering an International chassis for a new pumper and agreed the cost would be split with the Rural Fire District Board.
City Clerk/Administrator Jake Dickson presented a pumper purchase proposal from Custom Fire Apparatus. Dickson said the Rural Fire District Board had approved its half of the purchase; he also noted that grant awards the city expected to offset some cost would not be announced until November. Fire Chief Kevin Jacobson and department staff were present to explain operational need and cost. Jacobson suggested approving the chassis and keeping the option to sell the chassis if funding proved inadequate to purchase the completed pumper.
Member Robert “Bob” Klug moved to order the International chassis with the cost split with the Rural Fire District Board; Member Ryan Stenzel seconded. The motion passed 4-0.
The council’s approval authorizes the chassis order; additional funding steps, including grant awards and any sale option, remain contingent on future determinations.
