The Buhl City Council unanimously approved three local actions on Aug. 20: a special-event permit for an outdoor music and beverage fundraiser hosted by the Hydeaway, the hiring of a Lead Library Technician, and the appointment of a resident to the Recreation Board.
Event approval: Nora Zgonc of the Hydeaway requested permission to hold a one-day karaoke contest and benefit for Tami Gruenhagen on Saturday, Aug. 24, serving keg beer outdoors and running about 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. The council approved the request and the motion noted the event was authorized through 11:30 p.m.; no barricades were planned. The proceeds will support Ms. Gruenhagen, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Personnel and appointment votes: The council accepted the Library Board’s offer to hire Phantajia Duty as Lead Library Technician. Councilor Loeffler moved to approve the offer; Councilor Towner supported the motion and the vote carried unanimously. Separately, the council appointed Kelly Girgen to fill the remainder of 2024 on the Recreation Board; Councilor Towner moved the appointment and Councilor Hadrava supported it. The council recorded unanimous approval on both items.
Why it matters: the special-event approval allows a local business to host a community fundraiser; the personnel and appointment votes fill local service roles in the library and recreation governance.
Next steps: the Hydeaway may host the event on Aug. 24 as approved; the hire and appointment will take effect immediately per city personnel processes.
