House recognizes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day; Delaware Residents Protection Commission briefs members

The House marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15) during the June 11 session.
Representative Snyder Hall introduced the concurrent resolution recognizing the day and explained the purpose of the observance to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a global observance held annually on June 15 to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect, mistreatment, and exploitation," she said.
Margaret Bailey, Executive Director of the Delaware Residents Protection Commission, addressed the chamber and described the commission’s duties: monitoring quality assurance in skilled nursing and assisted-living facilities, including memory-care units, and running a statewide satisfaction survey on care and safety. "I'm Executive Director of the Delaware Residents Protection Commission," she said, noting the commission will share survey results with the General Assembly and facilities and encouraged members to wear purple lapel ribbons in recognition.
Bailey told members the commission had recently updated its name and continues work to identify and prevent abuse and neglect, urging reporting and local prevention efforts. The recognition passed by voice vote.
