Crawfordsville board approves Price Excavating contracts, rescinds unsafe-building order and clears Pike Street for summer events

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Public Safety on Jan. 28 approved two major construction contracts, rescinded an unsafe-building order after code-enforcement updates and cleared a series of street closures for scheduled community events.
Erin Corbin, a board member, moved to accept Price Excavating’s bid of $1,518,679.80 for the sewer lift station at 150 S; Mayor Todd Barton seconded and the motion passed. Later in the meeting, Susan Albrecht moved to accept Price Excavating’s $1,360,923.85 bid to install a water main along Purple Heart Parkway; Erin Corbin seconded and the motion passed.
The board also voted to table several other procurement items, including bids for the 2026-1 Community Crossings paving project, the South Elm Street project and a Purple Heart Parkway field drain and drainage-ditch reroute. Those items were discussed but not advanced at this meeting.
Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis reported updated photos and cleanup activity at 413 Wilson Avenue, which is owned by Justin Neier. Lewis said trash bags have been removed and the property is secure; Mayor Barton moved to rescind the prior unsafe-building order, Erin Corbin seconded, and the motion passed.
Randy Caldwell requested temporary closures of Pike Street at Pike Place for the Chrome & Caffeine events; the board approved closures on the following Sundays and times: April 26, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), May 31, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), June 28, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), July 26, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), Aug. 30, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), Sept. 27, 2026 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.) and Oct. 25, 2026 (4 p.m.–8 p.m.). Susan Albrecht moved to approve the closures and Erin Corbin seconded.
By resolution under Indiana Code 36-1-11-5.7, the board approved transferring a surplus fire engine to the Waveland Volunteer Fire Department; Erin Corbin moved to approve the resolution and Susan Albrecht seconded. Park & Rec also requested that a 2017 Dodge van (VIN 2C7WDGBG5HR718116), valued at $8,500, be declared surplus and sent to auction; the board approved that request.
The meeting concluded after miscellaneous department updates and a motion to adjourn by Erin Corbin, seconded by Susan Albrecht. No public-comment period appearances are recorded in the minutes for this session.
