One council member expressed concern about "the way that data [would] be collected" and asked for someone from the police department or relevant staff to explain the scope and safeguards before the council proceeded with implementation beyond the application stage.
Council members were told that the application merely authorizes the department to submit for funds and does not obligate the city to purchase equipment until implementation decisions and procurement come back to council. The council approved the resolution to permit the police department to apply for the grant, and asked staff to provide further information about proposed technologies, data retention policies and oversight procedures.
