Crawfordsville council unanimously adopts Green Power Rider amendment, annexation and tax abatement

The Crawfordsville Common Council met on Jan. 12, 2026, at City Building Council Chambers and, in a series of unanimous votes, adopted an amendment to the Green Power Rider, approved a declaratory resolution granting tax abatement to Midwest Bale Ties, and adopted an annexation ordinance for roughly 22.421 acres near State Road 47 North and Memorial Drive. The meeting began at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
The council adopted an amendment to the Green Power Rider administered by Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power after Councilman Mike Reidy moved to place the ordinance on second reading and Councilman Stan Hamilton seconded. The ordinance passed second reading unanimously; Reidy then moved to place it on third and final reading and to adopt, and Hamilton seconded. The third reading passed unanimously and the measure was recorded as Ordinance #01-2026.
Councilman Reidy also moved to approve a declaratory resolution designating an Economic Revitalization Area and granting tax abatement for Midwest Bale Ties, Inc.; Councilman Hamilton seconded. Chairman Todd Barton called for public and council comment; hearing none, the roll was called and the resolution passed by unanimous vote (Resolution #01-2026).
On land use matters, Councilman Stan Hamilton moved to place an ordinance vacating a portion of Canby Avenue (approximately 474 feet south from College Street and roughly 675 feet of the adjacent north-south alley) on first reading; Councilwoman Jennifer Lowe seconded and the ordinance passed first reading. Separately, Councilman Ethan Hollander moved to place the annexation ordinance for approximately 22.421 acres (Parcel 54-07-28-700-042.002-024, located in the northeast part of the city near State Road 47 North and Memorial Drive) on second reading; Councilwoman Lowe seconded and the ordinance passed second reading. Hollander moved to place the annexation ordinance on third and final reading and to adopt; Councilman Kent Priebe seconded and it passed third reading and was adopted as Ordinance #02-2026.
Councilwoman Jennifer Lowe moved to nominate Conrad Harvey and Mike Pryer to the Redevelopment Commission for one-year terms; Councilman Ethan Hollander seconded. The minutes record the motion and second; the transcript does not record a roll call or the vote tally for the nomination.
Councilman Mike Reidy briefly mentioned the status of the Myler Building; no action or details about the building were recorded in the minutes. With no further business, Councilwoman Lowe moved to adjourn, Councilman Hamilton seconded, and the meeting ended at 6:12 p.m.
