Browns Valley council approves sale of plow truck, grant application and routine resolutions

The Browns Valley City Council met Jan. 12 and unanimously approved a package of routine actions, including the sale of a city plow truck, authorization to seek grant funding for the fire department, adoption of the federal mileage reimbursement rate and several administrative measures.
Mayor Mike Heck called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and the council approved an amended agenda adding a kennel permit for Beacom. The consent agenda passed unanimously and included approval of the Dec. 29, 2025 meeting minutes and claims totaling $160,943.45, which the minutes break out as $16,340.50 in wages and $144,602.95 in other claims.
Council members approved the sale of the city plow truck to the City of Sisseton for $18,501.00 after a sealed-bid process produced that as the highest responsible bid. The council also authorized staff to submit an application for a SUBS Public Safety Foundation grant in the amount of $24,500 to purchase fire department equipment.
The council adopted the IRS standard mileage rate at 72.5 cents per mile and appointed Ashley Smith to the Library Board. Members also approved three routine resolutions: Resolution 26-01 (annual designations), Resolution 26-02 (allowing wire/automated bank payments) and Resolution 26-03 (appointments of corporate authorized signers for the City of Browns Valley).
By unanimous vote the council renewed Beacom's kennel license for $150.00. City staff provided brief reports on administrative activities, library operations and public works projects during the meeting.
The council noted that city offices will be closed Jan. 19 and that the Economic Development Authority will meet Jan. 19 at 5:00 p.m. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
