Council renews three liquor licenses and acknowledges volunteer group's licensed gambling

At its March 11 meeting the Brownsville City Council approved liquor-license renewals for the River Station, Wildcat Saloon and Lawrence Lake Marina.
Barb Hurley moved to approve the renewals, Bill Fitzpatrick seconded, and the motion passed. The council did not discuss conditions or additional restrictions during the renewal vote as reflected in the minutes.
Separately, the council approved an acknowledgement that licensed gambling by The Friends of the Brownsville Fire Department may take place within the city as a way for the volunteer group to raise funds for department needs; the Friends group is pursuing the necessary licensing. Barb Hurley moved to approve the acknowledgement, David Prestby seconded, and the motion passed.
The council also heard announcements about upcoming fire-department fundraisers tied to these acknowledgements. Any gambling activity remains subject to state licensing and local permit requirements.
