Engineer Lucas Jones told the council on Sept. 9 that preliminary work on a planned water project would begin Friday and that the concentrated construction schedule would run about six weeks.
Lucas said his team is delivering signage and equipment this week and will provide a detailed timeline to the city. During public comment a resident asked whether the water project would overlap with other utility work; Lucas said both Xcel Energy and Comcast plan separate projects in town. He reported that Xcel proposed replacement of gas mains to houses across the city and that Comcast’s work is focused in a smaller area described in the meeting as from 13 to 1348 Second Street, with work both underground and overhead on 13. Lucas said the city had asked both utilities to comply with the same archaeological and cultural-impact processes his firm followed; he said the utilities’ work is currently stalled pending compliance.
The resident also asked whether the projects would affect a bus stop; Lucas said the city had reached out to the school district but had not yet received a response. Council asked for and was promised a detailed timeline from the engineer to clarify phasing and impacts.
