Council approves SDRA MOU, several board appointments and a $35,981 settlement

Savannah City Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority (SDRA), confirmed multiple board and commission appointments, and authorized a settlement payment at its Nov. 18 meeting.
City Manager Pat Monahan explained the SDRA MOU (Item #63). The SDRA account balance is $309,000; the City will receive a check for that amount. Under the MOU SDRA may retain $50,000 for future administrative expenses to complete ongoing projects (streets, bikeway projects, Civic Center reuse); SDRA also owes the City $13,000 from a prior accounts receivable. The City intends to place the funds into a restricted account, the minutes state. The council approved the MOU unanimously.
During the board-appointments portion of the meeting (Item 63A) the council approved the following nominations by unanimous vote: Vernon Jones to the Chatham–Savannah Authority for the Homeless (four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2023); Kevin Finley to the Downtown Savannah Authority (four-year term ending May 31, 2023); Karen Jarett reappointed to the Metropolitan Planning Commission (three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2022); Hunter Hall and Michael Condon appointed to the Savannah Zoning Board of Appeals (three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2022); and Greg Parker reappointed to the Savannah Economic Development Authority (five-year term ending Dec. 31, 2024).
In City Attorney business (Item #64) the council authorized payment of an ante litem claim involving damage from a falling tree limb to Dr. Irving Victor in the amount of $35,981.13 (salvage value). The motion carried unanimously.
The council also moved through multiple other routine purchasing and contract authorizations, alcohol license approvals, zoning and ordinance readings, and the 2020 proposed budget public hearing, most of which were approved without debate and are recorded in the consent and ordinance sections of the minutes.
