BB&T and SunTrust donate $20,000 to Savannah Affordable Housing Fund

At the Nov. 18 council meeting BB&T donated $15,000 and SunTrust donated $5,000 to the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund; the city’s Director of Housing and Neighborhood Services said SAHF has provided $16.4 million in assistance since 2012.
Council accepted donations from BB&T and SunTrust to bolster the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF).
At the meeting Mr. Chad Jacobs, a commercial real estate banker with BB&T Bank, presented Mayor Eddie W. DeLoach with a check for $15,000. SunTrust representatives presented a $5,000 check. Martin Fretty, Director of Housing and Neighborhood Services, explained that both donations will go to SAHF, a locally controlled public–private fund used to leverage private investment to address workforce and affordable housing needs in Savannah.
Fretty told the council that SAHF has provided approximately $16.4 million of assistance to local families seeking improved housing opportunities, including homeownership and home maintenance, since 2012. The minutes indicate this is BB&T’s fourth contribution to SAHF since 2015 and SunTrust’s first.
Council adopted resolutions accepting both donations as part of the consent agenda.
