Mesabi East School Board members on Feb. 1 approved a package of routine business and several personnel and procedural items during a regular meeting held in the Media Center and virtually.
On the consent agenda the board approved payrolls, bills and transfers totaling $1,336,568.97 and the reorganizational and regular meeting minutes of Jan. 12, 2021. Director Amanda Gross moved to approve the agenda and the consent agenda; both motions carried.
Personnel and contracts: the board approved hiring Alyssa Hujanen as a special education paraprofessional up to 29 hours per week at Step 0 effective Jan. 25, 2021. The board also approved engaging Wipfli LLP to perform the annual audit for the year ending June 30, 2021 for $22,500, with an additional $2,000 if a single audit is required.
COVID-related leave: the board adopted a resolution extending deadlines for leaves granted under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). The motion to approve the extension was moved by Director Amanda Gross and seconded by Director Kathy Undeland; a roll-call vote recorded ayes from Directors Baudhuin, Hautala, Worshek, LaFrenier, Undeland and Gross.
Superintendent search and meetings format: the board approved conducting superintendent search meetings and candidate interviews virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with Minnesota Statutes 13D.021; meeting recordings will be posted on the district website under the Superintendent Search page.
The board set upcoming meeting dates including virtual work sessions and special meetings in February 2021 and scheduled the next regular meeting for March 1, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
