Mesabi East board approves $1.66 million in payrolls, minutes and tuition agreements; accepts retirements and leave

The Mesabi East School Board approved payrolls, bills and transfers totaling $1,655,297.56 and a package of consent items at its March 1, 2021 meeting.
Director Amanda Gross moved to approve the consent agenda, which included payrolls, bills and transfers in the amount of $1,655,297.56, minutes from several February meetings and tuition agreements arranging placement for one student at East Range Academy (start date Jan. 25, 2021) and one student at Fargo Public School District No. 1 (start date Feb. 1, 2021). Director Walt Hautala seconded the motion; the board voted all in favor and carried the motion.
The board also accepted two retirement notices. On a motion by Director Gross and a second from Director Pamela LaFrenier, the board accepted the retirement resignation of Greg Barnes, effective March 31, 2021, with appreciation for his years of service. Director Chris Baudhuin moved and Director Walt Hautala seconded acceptance of the retirement resignation of Patricia Akey, effective June 3, 2021; that motion also carried unanimously.
Director Pamela LaFrenier moved and Director Amanda Gross seconded approval of an unpaid medical leave of absence for Sonia Steele from March 3, 2021 to May 17, 2021; the motion passed with all in favor.
The board noted reports were provided under separate cover and set its next regular meeting for Monday, April 12, 2021 at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Cyndi Worshek at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
