Resident seeks change to dog ordinance; council to notify neighbors and review options
Summary
A Rose Creek resident asked the council to clarify the dog ordinance so indoor dogs aren't required to be outside all day; the council agreed to send the existing ordinance to the neighbors involved and advised another resident with a suspected property encroachment to consult an attorney.
At the Sept. 6 meeting, resident Angela Infante asked the City Council to revise the dog ordinance to state that indoor dogs do not have to be out all day. Council members said they would send the current ordinance to the Rayburns and suggested the family move their dog pen to the back of the house to reduce street-facing barking.
Another resident, Mitch Hegge, raised a separate concern about a neighbor's yard and a building that he said sits on his property while the owners are away in Florida. Council members advised Hegge to seek legal counsel before taking action and said Councilmen Conradt and Felten are reviewing other cities' ordinances for guidance. The council did not direct city enforcement action during the meeting.
The council's Ordinance Committee also reported it is making progress reviewing municipal codes. No ordinance change was approved at the Sept. 6 session; the item remains under review.
