Rose Creek council adopts 2024 budget, approves levy increase and routine permits

Councilman Andrew Felten moved to approve the budget with changes; Councilman Mark Conradt seconded and Mayor Craig Weis approved the motion. The council also voted to raise the 2024 levy by 3%, with $5,327.54 earmarked for street repairs and maintenance.
Council members approved a $6,100 bid to pour two concrete pads for the community recycling area, to be paid from the city's gambling fund. The council additionally recorded an estimated $14,445 cost for softball-field irrigation to support three leagues and a summer tournament and said it is seeking bids for a failing retaining wall on the south side of the fire hall.
Maintenance staff requested a replacement hand sprayer after the current unit failed; the council approved purchase of a battery-backup Milwaukee sprayer listed at $3,000. Discussion about a new John Deere tractor was tabled. The council approved a $1,200 contract with Conradt Tree Removal to remove four dead oak trees and an overhanging branch at the park; Councilman Mark Conradt abstained from that vote.
Councilman Wendel Sprung moved and Councilman Felten seconded approval of payroll, claims and invoices; the motion was approved by Mayor Weis. The council adjourned the regular meeting at 7:47 p.m. and moved into a closed session as listed on the agenda. The next regular council meeting was set for Oct. 2, 2023, at 5:45 p.m.
