Brownsville fire department to use grant balances for gear; two members to seek event license

Fire department representative Ben Novak updated the Brownsville City Council on April 2, saying the department has responded to 23 calls so far this year and outlining several grant and fundraiser items.
Novak told the council that repair of the department well cost $16,795.50, leaving $3,205.50 in unspent Falck Foundation grant funds. He said $6,047 in remaining public safety funds could be released to match a Taylor Family Farms grant. The minutes note a suggested use of the Falck funds to purchase turnout gear for new personnel.
Novak also said Lindsey Rohrer and Brandon Frank will attend gambling control board training to obtain a gambling license to support the Friends of the Brownsville Fire Department organization; the department's chicken Q fundraiser is scheduled for April 8. Novak confirmed that the department had 23 responses for the year to date.
The council did not record additional formal action on the grant-release or the use of Falck funds during the meeting; staff were informed of the available funds and the training plan for the two members.
