Treasurer Jenna Knight told the council that the city expended a prior Arlin Falck grant of $37,000 and recommended submitting a new Arlin Falck grant application to repair the fire department well and include other fire needs such as hoses.
On a motion by Council member Bill Fitzpatrick, seconded by Barb Hurley, the council approved hiring Gary's Pump & Well to perform the well repair and authorized moving forward with an Arlin Falck grant application to fund the anticipated $20,000 project.
Fire & Rescue representative Brandon Frank told the council a Compeer Grant application has been submitted to purchase LED personal safety lights for department members. Frank also reported that Brownsville Fire & Rescue provided mutual aid to the Caledonia Fire Department for a fire at Joe Rud Trucking Company, received $3,997 in training reimbursement from the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Training and Education (MBFTE), and scheduled an Oct. 9 fire department tour and a joint fire district meeting with Crooked Creek Township.
Frank provided a sample letter to be sent to boathouse owners requesting donations to benefit the fire department. No formal donations or fund-raising actions were recorded in the minutes beyond the sample letter and grant-seeking activities.
