Browerville board adopts literacy plan; LETRS training for K–6, SpEd and Title I teachers set for August

The Browerville Public School Board on July 1 approved the district’s Literacy Plan and Read Well by Third Grade for the 2024–2025 school year and heard administration plans for teacher training required under READ Act compliance.
Patrick Sutlief, K‑12 Principal, told the board that student handbook updates will reflect recent MSBA policy changes and that the Local Literacy Plan and Read Well by Third Grade would be presented for approval. The board carried a motion to adopt those literacy measures.
Sutlief said K–6 teachers, special education teachers and Title I teachers are scheduled to begin LETRS training on Thursday, Aug. 22 during teacher workshops; he described LETRS as a two‑year program about the "Science of Reading." The principal also reported summer programming participation (about 120 students) and listed upcoming events including 7th Grade Orientation (Aug. 20), Elementary Open House (Aug. 21) and KinderCamp (Aug. 22).
The minutes record the literacy plan approval as a motion by Jodi Hillmer, seconded by Kelly Callahan, and carried. The board asked administration to return with additional handbook language tied to MSBA policy updates and to report on literacy implementation at subsequent meetings.
