Brownsville council unanimously approves vacating Second Street North

Mayor Jean Meyer opened a public hearing at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 4 on a resolution to vacate Second Street North. Meyer read the resolution aloud and answered questions from the audience about whether affected landowners would be landlocked and whether an exit street from State Highway 26 would require a name. Meyer said affected landowners would not be landlocked and that the exit street need not be named.
On a motion from Council member Barb Hurley, seconded by Council member Pam Walhovd, the council approved the resolution by roll call vote (Barb Hurley, aye; Pam Walhovd, aye; Jean Meyer, aye; Bill Fitzpatrick, aye; Tim Klug, aye). The council adjourned the special hearing at 7:06 p.m. and immediately called the regular monthly meeting to order.
The action formally removes the city street designation for Second Street North as set forth in the adopted resolution. No conditions or follow-up actions were recorded in the minutes. The council did not receive additional public comment raising concerns about land access during the hearing.
