Superintendent Lisa Brenneman told the Keota School District Board of Education on Aug. 8 that district staff will work with a new Trane representative to inventory chiller warranties and that district‑wide piping needs require attention. Brenneman said she has reached out to the Area Education Agency to help the district develop a stronger walkthrough and data process for instructional monitoring.
Brenneman reported that students in the Principal’s Advisory Committee told administrators they appreciate the four‑day week; "100% of the students in the PAC reported that they love the four‑day week," she said, and students noted more classroom structure and fewer phone distractions.
Elementary Principal Seth Milledge summarized several grant awards and reimbursements the district has secured recently: more than $98,000 from state sources toward safety improvements, approval for a $100,000 reimbursement from the WCRF for the playground project, and work to finalize a Trees for Kids grant with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Milledge also noted a shift in grading for 4th–6th grades to categorical weighting (20% classwork, 35% formative assessment, 45% summative assessment) and said the district will review its crisis plan using training from the I Love You Guys Foundation.
Business Manager Amy Greiner reported routine finance work and that the district received funds for a security grant and REAP dollars. Greiner said monthly bank statements had been reconciled and that she will attend the Fall IASBO conference in Des Moines.
The board did not set a timetable at the meeting for addressing the pipe repairs or chiller warranty work; those items were described as areas of operational focus for administration.
