Athens-Clarke County Commission approves up to $325,000 for animal medical care

The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia Mayor and Commission unanimously adopted Ordinance #26-04-20 on April 21, 2026, amending the FY2026 operating budget to provide contingency funding of up to $325,000 for medical care, services, supplies and animal care maintenance in the Animal Services Department. Commissioner Link made the motion to adopt the ordinance, and Commissioner Taylor seconded it.
The ordinance text, presented by title only, directs that the General Fund increase the use of fund balance by up to $325,000 and increase Animal Services operating expenditures by up to $325,000 to cover medical services, animal care maintenance and medical supplies. The agenda report associated with the item was dated March 26, 2026.
The motion carried by unanimous vote. The commission then moved on to other business and scheduled an executive session for discussion of real estate acquisition and disposal; the meeting adjourned at 6:06 p.m.
