New Germany council approves event permits, adopts county hazard plan and okays lift-station alarm replacement

The New Germany City Council on April 7 approved a set of routine business items, including event permits, a county hazard mitigation plan and a lift-station alarm purchase.
The council approved 22 patio-music special permits for Fat Boyz (motion by Lorn Herrmann, second by Thomas Mielke; vote 5-0) and approved special permits for the T‑Road car show, farmers market and Octoberfest with vendor-license requirements (motion by Paul Roepke, second by Thomas Mielke; vote 5-0). The council also reported no concerns with a land-use application for a business on property owned by Dan and Jennifer Mielke.
In the consent agenda, the council approved the March 17, 2026 minutes (with Thomas Mielke added to the roll call), claims for payment, financial reports and Resolution 2026-04 adopting the Carver County Hazard Mitigation Plan (motion by Thomas Mielke, second by Paul Roepke; vote 5-0).
Under old business, councilmembers approved the People Service Omni quote to replace the lift station alarm (motion by Kevin Grove, second by Paul Roepke; carried 5-0). Council also reviewed other ongoing items: an investing-funds presentation by Ehlers scheduled for April 21, a pending Hall window project quote for First Street construction, a planned curb repair quote for the office front, and six America 250 banners ordered by the Commercial Club (the city will receive the bill and the Commercial Club will reimburse the city).
Parks staff presented Lindstrom Park sign designs and selected a baseball-themed sign with an estimated cost of $1,000–$1,200. Public Works reported planned fence installation at Lindstrom Park and cleanup by Mayer Lutheran; additional maintenance tasks include bathroom parts pickup, plow and skid-loader servicing and lawn-mower maintenance.
Clerk Twyla Menth noted that seasonal lawn-mowing will be advertised, that a fence zoning permit was issued for 220 State Avenue S, and that preliminary figures show a 7.5% increase in the 2027 sheriff contract. The clerk also said she will be out for a medical procedure April 20–27 and that water billing will be processed April 16–17; she said the May 5 meeting may be canceled if few agenda items are submitted.
Councilmembers reported no additional items and adjourned at 7:43 PM (motion by Kevin Grove, second by Lorn Herrmann; vote 5-0).
