Dayton awards landscaping contract and approves asbestos removal at 722 Walnut

At its March 18 meeting the Town of Dayton council awarded a landscaping contract, approved a small asbestos-removal contract for a town-owned property, and set dates for several town services.
Board President Marc Buhrmester presented bids for landscaping work around Town Hall and the Dayton entrance signs and moved to hire Fine Lines per the submitted quote. Rocky Richards seconded and the motion carried; the minutes record one abstention from Carla Snodgrass. The council discussed Dumpster Day scheduled for April 12 and approved a street-cleaning program to begin April 22 and occur six times this year. The council voted to purchase a new State flag and a POW/MIA flag; that motion passed unanimously.
On property remediation, Steve Schuhle presented quotes for asbestos removal at 722 Walnut Street. Marc Buhrmester moved to hire SSI to remove asbestos at the community center at a cost of $2,570.00. Steve seconded and the motion passed with Carla Snodgrass recorded as voting no.
Town Marshal Scott Taylor also requested approval to send Officer Tislow to mental-health and de-escalation training; the council approved the training on a unanimous roll-call vote.
These actions allocate modest, vendor-level contracts and schedule recurring public services; the council recorded votes and assigned implementation tasks to appropriate staff but did not authorize large capital projects at this meeting.
