Darmstadt council fails to pass proposed 2026 payroll raise; attorney says current rates remain

At the Jan. 17 meeting of the Darmstadt Town Council, Council President Cecil Poag proposed a payroll ordinance that would raise salaries by 3 percent. The motion received no second and therefore died.
Ray Engler moved to keep payroll rates the same as in 2025; Crystal Kahre seconded. Eric Gries abstained and Poag voted no. The motion failed on a 2-1-1 tally (yes/no/abstain). Town attorney Josh Claybourn advised the council that if no motion passes, the existing salary rates remain in effect for the following year.
