The Brownsdale City Council on Nov. 4 approved a pair of resolutions and several routine public-works and police updates during a meeting called to order by Mayor Jeff Foster at 7:00 p.m.
Council Member Jessica Klingfus moved to approve Resolution 2024-22 accepting a $100 donation from M Jones Electric for the pickleball court; Council Member Rick Smith seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote of 4-0. Later in the meeting Klingfus moved to accept a bid from Fox Electric to purchase and install four commercial-style fans (two for the community room and two for the library) for $1,620; Smith seconded and the council approved the work 4-0.
The meeting also included a public hearing on past-due water, sewer and lawn-care accounts. Clerk/Treasurer Adria Vargas disclosed that the city reserves the right to collect through the end of 2024 and that the highest outstanding balance was $773.42. No account-holders spoke during the hearing. Council Member Klingfus then moved to approve Resolution 2024-23 calling tax assessments for past-due water, sewer and lawn-care bills for a one-year assessment at 7% interest; Council Member Smith seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
The council heard routine operations updates. Council Member Raughn Oakland reported that a loader was recently repaired by RDO and appears to be functioning; he said the previously approved tree-trimming would occur this fall or next, pending contractor Morem’s schedule, and another street-sweeping pass is planned. Officer Jon Smerud raised a concern about curb backfill at a road-construction site and asked Clerk Vargas to contact Brian Johnson to follow up. Smerud also reported that new tires and a repaired blower motor on the squad truck are functioning and discussed options to sell the old police squad through MN Bid or a spring auction, noting the city would be responsible for removing graphics.
During public comment Don Konken asked whether muskrat trapping or hunting could address a perceived problem at the city ponds; Officer Smerud replied that no hunting or shooting is allowed on that property. Following routine billing and signatures, Council Member Klingfus moved to adjourn at 7:33 p.m.; Council Member Smith seconded and the meeting ended with a 4-0 vote.
