Brownsville, townships agree to jointly fund replacement of aging fire pumper

The Brownsville City Council on Nov. 6 approved a written agreement to ask Brownsville and Crooked Creek townships to set aside funds to help replace the fire department's 1990 Ford L9000 pumper.
Fire Department representative Brandon Frank told the council the department estimates a replacement will cost about $175,000 and the goal is to raise 50% of that cost through township contributions, with the remainder financed by a loan if necessary. The council approved the agreement by motion (mover: Barb Hurley; second: Bill Fitzpatrick); the agreement will be reviewed at the council's December meeting.
Frank said the department is seeking a truck that meets operational needs at the lowest possible cost and hopes to complete the purchase within about three years. He also said he will attend the boathouse owners’ annual meeting to discuss equitable payments for fire and rescue services.
The council noted the Friends of the Brownsville Fire Department is pursuing a gambling license to generate additional funding for the department. The council did not record a formal vote tally in the minutes beyond noting the motion passed and that the agreement will return for review in December.
