Tri-Center Comm School District board approves gym sound system, personnel changes and conference additions

The Tri-Center Comm School District Board of Education met Aug. 14, 2025, in the high-school library and approved a series of routine business items including a new gym sound system, personnel actions, and conference membership changes.
President Sara Arnold called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board member Mike Olsen moved to approve the meeting agenda and the consent agenda — which included paying bills, financial reports and minutes from the previous meeting — and Amanda Scherer seconded; both motions carried 3-0.
Athletic Director Cassie Harris reviewed bids for a high-school gym sound system. Board member Mike Olsen moved, with a second from Amanda Scherer, to accept KCAV’s bid in the amount of $34,607.77; the motion carried 3-0.
The board approved a Shared Personnel agreement with Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) to provide a College and Career Transition Counselor for the next three school years. The motion was made by Amanda Scherer, seconded by Mike Olsen, and passed 3-0.
Superintendent Angela Huseman discussed language for Policy 705.1 — Purchasing-Bidding. The board approved the policy’s first reading and waived the second reading on a 3-0 vote after a motion by Amanda Scherer and second by Mike Olsen.
Other approvals included an Elementary Student Council fundraiser to sell glow-sticks at Homecoming, the admission of Shenandoah School District and Red Oak into the Western Iowa Conference, and summer coaching contracts. The board also approved additional coaching stipends for Elizabeth Thielen and Maddie Wood for added responsibilities.
The board accepted resignations effective immediately from Shea Hopp (Prom Sponsor), Chad Freeberg (Assistant Wrestling Coach), and Michelle Parsons (Associate). The board set its next meeting for Sept. 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the high-school library and adjourned at 6:36 p.m.
The meeting record lists Superintendent Angela Huseman; Principal Chad Harder; Athletic Director Cassie Harris; Curriculum Director Michelle Baatz; and Business Manager/Board Secretary Jennifer Harder as attendees.
