Dayton awards $507,587 reconstruction contract and approves $8,494 preservation work under CCMG grant

The Town of Dayton Town Council voted unanimously Feb. 18 to accept two bids under the Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) 2024-2, approving a $507,587.39 reconstruction (mill-and-pave) contract with DC Construction and a $8,494.20 preservation contract with Pavement Solutions.
Consultant Colin Sullivan of BF&S presented the preservation and reconstruction work and noted an arithmetic discrepancy in the originally read amount for the DC Construction bid; the correct total is $507,587.39. Town Board President Marc Buhrmester moved to accept the Pavement Solutions bid for $8,494.20; Leah Copas seconded and the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. Buhrmester then moved to accept the DC Construction bid, Steve Schuhle seconded, and the council approved that motion unanimously as well.
Why it matters: the council said it uses the biennial Paser Report produced by BF&S to prioritize streets for CCMG-funded repairs. Buhrmester told members the streets slated for work this year were selected under the previous council; the projects were delayed last year because no official had required certification to finalize the grant. Clerk-Treasurer Bridget Cadwallader is now certified, enabling the town to proceed.
Procedural steps: BF&S noted the Notification of Contractor Award must be signed by the board president and the formal agreement by the president and clerk-treasurer; Form 96 also requires signatures from all board members. The council indicated those signatures will be completed to finalize awards.
Other project notes: BF&S said it has requested additional information from Dayton Elementary School about its parking lot; town staff will review materials and return to the council if the school’s proposal proceeds.
