Tri‑Center Board keeps textbook fees flat, approves HUDL athletics contract and multiple personnel and policy items

The Tri‑Center Board of Education met July 14, 2025, and approved a series of routine personnel, policy and program items intended to prepare the district for the 2025–26 school year.
President Sara Arnold called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The five‑member board — Arnold, Mike Olsen, Amanda Scherer, Jeremy VanArsdol and Katie Ausdemore (via conference call) — voted unanimously on motions throughout the meeting.
Superintendent Angela Huseman recommended that textbook rental fees remain unchanged for 2025–26; the board approved the recommendation. The district will charge $40 for elementary book rental, $45 for middle school and $50 for high school for the coming year.
Athletic Director Cassie Harris reported fall and early‑season athletics items, including a baseball substate on Tuesday, a fall parent athletic meeting on Aug. 10 and a football scrimmage Aug. 22, and said the district is seeking bids for a gym sound system and will begin Fuller Digital online streaming this fall. The board approved a $12,200 contract with HUDL for the district’s athletic online system.
On personnel, the board approved a contract with Sarah Branning to serve as the district athletic trainer for 2025–26 and approved spring coaching contracts for boys and girls track, golf and soccer, along with updates to Schedule B coaching agreements. The board also approved TLC positions for the upcoming school year and voted to add a part‑time English teaching position after a presentation from Superintendent Huseman and Principal Chad Harder. Juliene Livingston was approved as the Special Olympics sponsor for 2025–26.
The board approved an agreement with Iowa Western Community College for the College Early Start program (IWCC) and approved the High School, Middle School and Elementary student handbooks for 2025–26, as well as the Certified/Non‑Certified employee handbook.
Board Member Katie Ausdemore moved, with a second from Mike Olsen, to approve the first reading and waive the second reading for a package of district policies, including anti‑bullying/anti‑harassment (104 series), open meetings (211), child abuse reporting (402.2), employee qualifications (405.2; 411.2), compulsory attendance and truancy (501 series), student use of personal electronic devices (503.9), graduation requirements (505.5), student health and immunizations (507.1), and basic instructional and health education programs (603 series). The board approved the motion unanimously.
The board set its August meeting for Aug. 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Secondary Library and adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
