Northwest ISD board upholds level-two decision, confirms no attendance-committee referral for 2025–26

The Northwest Independent School District Board of Trustees returned to open session at 5:15 p.m. and voted to uphold a level-two decision in a level-three written appeal, instructing staff to provide written confirmation that there will be no referral to an attendance committee for the 2025–26 school year.
Board member Mrs. Cobb made the motion, saying, "I move that the board uphold the level two decision and grant additional relief by giving a written confirmation that there will be no referral to an attendance committee for the 2025-26 school year." Mrs. Hatfield seconded the motion. The board president restated the motion before the vote.
Earlier in the meeting the president had moved the board into executive session at 4:33 p.m. to receive the written submissions and deliberate in private under provisions of the Texas Government Code governing closed hearings on employee complaints. The president cited sections 551.071, 551.074, 551.082 and 551.0821 when explaining the legal basis for the closed session.
When the board voted in open session, the president called the tally. The audio record contains the president's statement that the result was "5-0 and a one and one absent tonight," and the record separately notes that Mr. Dearing would abstain from voting on the matter; the board concluded that the motion passed.
The president said the hearing was concluded and proceeded with routine closing business and a motion to adjourn. The board did not indicate any further action or conditions attached to the written confirmation beyond the statement that there would be no referral to an attendance committee for the 2025–26 school year.
The special meeting had been called and noticed under the Texas Open Meetings Act; the president opened the session at 4:30 p.m., presided over the executive-session deliberation, and returned the board to open session to take the final action.
