Parks & Recreation board approves minutes, previews 2026 events and park updates

Stephanie Robinson, a member of the Charlestown Township Parks & Recreation Board, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2026, and the board approved the minutes from its Dec. 18, 2025 meeting. Michael Ridgway moved to approve the minutes as presented; John Kulp seconded. The recorded tally was 5 yes, 0 no, 0 abstain, 2 absent (Scott Ammerman, Max Rotondo).
Robinson reviewed the board’s preliminary 2026 events calendar and said a "save the date" flyer will be printed in the spring township newsletter. Planned events include an April wildflower walk, a May trail clean-up, a Memorial Day event, two summer concerts, a fall trail clean-up and a September Charlestown Day or fall festival.
The meeting included written updates from youth sports groups. The Phoenixville Area Soccer Club reported it is working with a local engineering firm to prepare permits for a well and irrigation system to improve grass playing surfaces and said weekend field use at Charlestown Township Park will increase from early April through the end of May. The club also announced that the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association recognized Phoenixville Area Soccer Club as best youth soccer club in 2026. No reports were given for PMYC or the Great Valley Mountain Biking team.
Cordelia Kane reported that the Pickering Trail bridge is finished; there was no report on the McDevitt Trail. Robinson said the planned installation of exercise equipment at Charlestown Park remains on track for spring but noted installers require temperatures "in the 50s and rising" before they will complete the work.
Faith Calnack, representing the Environmental Advisory Committee, told the board that progress has been made at the kestrel banding station and that a camera is being installed so the committee can livestream activity there.
Under old business, Robinson said the Parks & Recreation Board will assist the Historical Architectural Review Board with planning the township’s 250th birthday celebration scheduled for July 18, 2026, and will attend monthly planning meetings through July. With no new business, Robinson adjourned the meeting.
The board’s next scheduled meeting date was not specified in the minutes.
