Shorewood Council backs task force to study Community and Event Center; commission discusses recruitment

"They were in support of a task force to evaluate and make recommendations on the future of the SCEC and were in favor of getting some recommendations in place by the 2026 budgeting process for 2027," Czech said.

Commissioners focused discussion on how to recruit members with relevant expertise. Commissioner Wenner said the City should try to recruit members as soon as possible; Chair Hirner asked whether the Commission should recommend candidates with specific areas of expertise. Czech said staff already planned outreach and that word of mouth was likely the best recruitment strategy, and he emphasized that the SCEC is funded from a separate fund and has its own CIP. He said staff are holding off on any capital investments in the SCEC while the evaluation proceeds.
Next steps: staff will formalize a task force strategy and report back with recommendations and candidate recruitment approaches in the months ahead.
