Selectboard appoints Dan Smith as Jericho representative to regional broadband consortium

The Jericho Selectboard voted unanimously on June 18 to appoint Dan Smith as the town’s representative to the Chittenden County Communications Union District (CCCUD).
Paula Hollstein said Angelike Contis is stepping back from the role and that Dan Smith volunteered to serve. Dan Smith described CCCUD’s two‑phase approach: Phase One was completed last year under a Consolidated/Fidium contract in nearby towns, and Phase Two covers Jericho and Underhill. "A contract was awarded this year to Comcast to provide cable access," Smith said, and he added that Consolidated/Fidium is continuing buildout in Jericho so there is some competition over which unserved areas will be reached first. Smith said construction will likely begin in late 2026 or early 2027.
Peter Booth asked how the Selectboard would receive updates; Dan suggested he would notify Paula of significant developments. The board approved Dan Smith’s appointment by a 4-0 vote.
How this matters: appointment gives the town a named point of contact inside the CCCUD for project updates and a person who can report progress, timing and any changes affecting Jericho households and unserved locations.
