District highlights staff survey results, new curriculum purchases and PBIS recognition

District leaders updated the La Crescent‑Hokah School Board on programmatic and staffing matters, including staff satisfaction survey results, curriculum purchases and student‑support programs.

Jacob presented staff satisfaction and desired‑daily‑experience survey findings tied to the district’s strategic plan: staff reported improved clarity of expectations and stakeholder voice but flagged inconsistent behavior expectations across classrooms. District leaders said they will focus on improving consistent academic and behavior expectations and plan to replicate the staff survey work across buildings.

Administrators announced new language‑arts curriculum materials ordered for grades 5–8, and the high school library received $40,000 in new books with another $40,000 to come. Kindergarten enrollment reached 64 students, enabling four sections. The district reported PBIS recognition for an elementary school for work on positive behavioral interventions and supports.

Leaders also discussed handbook updates, a communications platform to consolidate parental communications and record‑retention requirements for digital communications. They said use of local food service (Terry) for district events could realize cost savings compared with outside catering quotes of roughly $5,000–$6,000 for similar events.

Board members agreed to circulate brief board self‑evaluation material and expect superintendent end‑of‑year self‑evaluation documentation at the August meeting.
