Waterford Energy Task Force awaiting benchmarking report, plans policy research and audit feasibility review

Waterford’s Energy Task Force met Jan. 30 and said it is awaiting a benchmarking report that will compare the town’s 2023 and 2024 energy consumption with a 2015 baseline.
Mary Childs, chair of the Energy Task Force and a member of the Representative Town Meeting, reported that the committee has submitted requested data and is waiting to review the benchmarking results. Childs also reported she contacted a representative from Eversource who is expected to share information about energy ratings and areas where town facilities could improve efficiency.
The task force’s stated charge is to review energy audits and consumption, identify any additional data needs, and address town energy policy. Members agreed that at the next meeting they will present findings from research into energy policies adopted by other municipalities and will discuss whether a third-party energy audit is feasible for Waterford.
Procedural items at the meeting included a motion by Greg Attanasio, seconded by Ursula Moreshead, to approve the prior meeting minutes; the motion passed. (The meeting record contains an internal date inconsistency: the agenda line lists the minutes as from 4/15/24 while the motion text references 4/15/25.) Kate MacKenzie moved to adjourn; Ivan Kuvalanka seconded and the meeting ended at 5:37 p.m.
The task force did not record public comments or a vote tally for motions in the minutes. The committee’s next meeting will include presentations of the policy-research findings and a discussion of third-party audit feasibility; no formal decision on commissioning an audit was recorded Jan. 30.
